How to maintain your hair condition in between visits to me.

1. Protect your hair from heat it’s very important.

Hairdryers and straighteners when used regularly take the natural moisture out of the hair and can dry it out. A good hairstylist will always use a heat-protecting product. It is important you do the same at home.

2. It is worth investing in professional products and spending a little more. Its worth remembering the wise saying, you get what you pay for. I have always found this to be true where hair products are concerned.

3. Apply your heat protector then a styling product about the size of a ten pence, to damp hair paying special attention to the mid-lengths and ends. Use a little more on long or thick hair.

4. I use and retail Maria Nila.Why?

because all products are vegan & cruelty free and free from sulphates & parabens. There is a great range of shampoos and conditioners to suit your hair needs. Maria Nila has a light hold cream heat spray I have found very good with all hair types.

5. I love Moroccan oil Hydrating styling cream it has the lovely argon oil that helps to condition and hydrate the hair, and gives shine.

6. Olaplex Hair Perfector 100ml No.3.Strengthen coloured, dry and damaged hair. Apply on unwashed damp hair once a week 10 to 20 minute at-home treatment, rinse and shampoo and condition after. It enables you to maintain healthier-looking hair between visits.

7. Blow-drying always blow-dry in a downward motion as this helps stop the cuticles from opening and keeps the hair soft and smooth. Use a medium heating speed at the roots and a lower heat to medium speed on the ends to avoid splitting.

8. Straighteners make sure you don’t apply too much unnecessary heat to your hair, around 185°C is the perfect temperature.

I have been asked by Salon services to try out the following new Barnum products the Magnesium and the Ysocel thermal brushes.

My first impression of the Barnum brand was – WOW!! the packaging looks top quality and expensive, the quality of both thermal brushes are excellent, which in my opinion is perfect for the retail and professional market and would make the products ideal gifts.

The Magnesium thermal brush has a great soft grip handle which makes it very comfortable to hold and easy to work with. It is lightweight, as it is made of wild boar and nylon bristles, which is perfect. The producers of the brushes state that the magnesium technology has advanced its heat retention, the heat is then released resulting in shorter drying time. I have used the brush for two weeks now and have found it does dry the hair much quicker and I have also found that the hair holds it style a lot longer too. I have been getting a lot more volume and fullness and the hair feels softer. My client’s reactions have been positive – two wanted to buy one, one lady especially as she was delighted with the volume it achieved.

I like this brush – it works well on a lot hair types. This brush is especially useful when there is limited time to blow-dry.

The Ysocel thermal brush has a good quality soft wooden handle which is also very nice to hold. There are plenty of bristles, which are a mixture of wild boar and nylon, it feels and looks like a good quality brush. It works well on curly and frizzy hair giving a nice soft finish. You can get a good hold on the brush to get a smooth finish.

Of the two, the Ysocel thermal brush is my favourite, why because I really like the handle and feel of the whole brush and it is perfect to achieve soft look styles.

I am off to the official launch of The Freelance Hairdressers Association (FHA) at the annual event ‘Inspire’ for freelance hairdressers and makeup artists this weekend, at Hellidon Lakes Hotel in Northamptonshire. http://www.thefha.org.uk

Patrick Cameron and Tim Hartley are heading the event this year, it’s going to be a very exciting evening.

I have entered the UK Freelance Awards 2014, which will be judged at the event. The categories I have entered are Bridal Stylist of the Year, Prom and Party Stylist of the Year and Make-up Artist of the Year; I have been short listed in all three categories.

I am very much looking forward to being inspired by the top UK Hairdresser Patrick Cameron with his amazing up hair styles and Tim Hartley with his amazing hair cutting style. It looks to be a very exciting Sunday!

I am also looking for makeup artists who would benefit from more hairstyling experience to assist me. There is the opportunity to learn from a few in-house training days for the right makeup artists.
